CodeRouter acts as a phase‑aware router for AI‑powered coding assistants. It examines each request from a coding agent—whether it is planning, implementing, debugging, testing, documenting, or performing small edits—and selects the least expensive model that can still meet the required quality, such as DeepSeek V3, Sonnet 4.6, Haiku, or Gemini Flash. The routing decision is made in under ten milliseconds and is logged for transparency.

The service is compatible with a range of coding tools, including Cursor, Aider, Claude Code, Copilot, Windsurf, Continue.dev, and any OpenAI‑compatible agent, requiring only a change of the base URL or environment variable. Users keep their existing workflows and CLI interfaces while the router automatically directs tasks to the appropriate model.

By routing cheaper models for routine phases and reserving higher‑priced models for complex work, CodeRouter reports typical cost reductions of 70‑90 % compared with direct use of premium models such as Anthropic Opus, without altering the user’s development process.
