Otter provides a single OpenAI‑compatible inference endpoint that can route requests to both proprietary closed‑source models and open‑weight, open‑source models. By presenting a unified API, it lets developers keep existing SDKs and request formats while swapping underlying models or scaling across image, video, audio, embedding, and code workloads without additional integration work.

The service tracks usage, keys, and routing centrally, offering scoped API keys for development and production environments and per‑key cost visibility. Streaming and batch payloads are supported, and the same contract used for chat completions can be employed in staging and production, reducing the need for custom glue code.
