dd Utility
Write and backup operating system IMG and ISO files
The tool writes disk image files to memory cards and other removable storage, and can also create bootable USB sticks from Linux ISO files. It supports both writing and restoring IMG files, and can handle compressed images in Zip, GZip and XZ formats, allowing on‑the‑fly compression to reduce backup size. Drag‑and‑drop operations simplify the backup and restore workflow.
Target users include developers and hobbyists who need to flash operating system images onto SD cards for devices such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino, BeagleBoard and similar ARM boards, as well as anyone requiring reliable image backup and restoration on Linux or macOS systems.
The application is implemented primarily in Bash, with AppleScript dialogs for the macOS build packaged via Platypus, and a Debian/Ubuntu package built with Debreate. Documentation and usage instructions are available on the project’s GitHub wiki.
