Double Commander

A dual‑panel file manager that presents two directory views side by side, enabling users to move, copy, and compare files with drag‑and‑drop or keyboard shortcuts. It includes an internal text editor with syntax highlighting and a built‑in viewer capable of displaying files as plain text, hex, or binary. Archives are treated as virtual folders, allowing direct browsing and copying of contents for formats such as ZIP, TAR, 7Z, RAR, and several Linux package types.

The program supports extensive search, including full‑text queries within files, and offers a configurable button bar for launching external applications or internal commands. Background operations keep the interface responsive while handling file transfers over FTP, FTPS, FTPES, SSH + SCP, and SFTP. Additional utilities include a multi‑rename tool, tabbed browsing, custom column layouts, and operation logging.

Designed for cross‑platform use, it runs on macOS and other systems, and it can load Total Commander plug‑ins (WCX, WDX, WFX, WLX). Unicode support and a plugin ecosystem further extend its functionality for power users and developers alike.
