FreeTube
Open source desktop YouTube client built with privacy in mind.
FreeTube is a desktop client for YouTube that runs on Windows, macOS, and various Linux distributions. It presents a familiar YouTube‑like interface while keeping all user data—subscriptions, playlists, and history—stored locally, never sent to external services. The application obtains video information by scraping or optionally using the Invidious API, allowing users to watch content without being tracked by YouTube.
The client supports channel subscriptions without requiring a Google account, provides an ad‑free viewing experience, and lets users import existing YouTube subscriptions to populate their feed instantly. All features are implemented in an open‑source codebase under the AGPLv3 license, and the software is available in multiple package formats, including installers, flatpak, and AppImage.
FreeTube targets users who want a privacy‑focused way to browse and watch YouTube videos on desktop computers, offering multilingual support and cross‑platform compatibility while remaining free to download and modify.
