GZDoom
Adds an OpenGL renderer to the ZDoom source port
GZDoom is a source port of the original DOOM engine that replaces the software renderer with an OpenGL (and Vulkan) based renderer, allowing the game to run with modern graphics hardware. It retains compatibility with ZDoom’s features while providing higher visual fidelity, smoother frame rates, and support for higher resolutions and advanced visual effects. The project is open‑source, licensed under GPL v3, and is maintained by a community of contributors.
The software is aimed at developers, modders, and enthusiasts who wish to create or play DOOM‑derived content with contemporary graphical capabilities. Its source‑friendly design makes it suitable for extending the engine, adding custom mods, or integrating new rendering techniques. Documentation, build instructions, and community support are available through the project's wiki, forum, and Discord server.
GZDoom runs on macOS as a core platform and is considered stable for production use. It provides a modern rendering pipeline while preserving the classic gameplay and modding ecosystem of the DOOM series.
