hygg
Document reader.
hygg is a terminal‑based document reader that presents content in a minimalist, Vim‑inspired text user interface. It opens a wide range of formats—including PDF, EPUB, DOCX, and many others—through pandoc, and can extract text from scanned files using OCR. The interface adapts text justification to the terminal width, supports visual selection, highlighting, and persistent bookmarks, and automatically saves reading progress.
Keyboard navigation follows familiar Vim keybindings, allowing fast movement, searching, and command execution directly from selected text. Users can split the view to see command output alongside the document, and an interactive tutorial guides new users through the basic functions in a few minutes. The tool runs locally on Linux, macOS, and Windows, respecting privacy by avoiding external servers.
The project is stable and available as a command‑line application installable via Cargo. It includes core features such as text justification, persistent state, and extensible workflows, while a roadmap outlines future additions like a self‑hosted sync server, AI‑driven summarization, and offline web client support.
