IPA Palette
International Phonetic Alphabet input method
IPA Palette provides an input method for entering International Phonetic Alphabet symbols on macOS 10.6 and later. It integrates with the system’s font menu, showing which IPA fonts are available, and supports macOS Dark Mode. The application includes Apple‑notarized distribution and a Sparkle auto‑update mechanism, allowing users to keep the tool current without manual reinstall.
The software targets linguists, language students, and anyone who needs to transcribe speech using IPA characters. By presenting a palette of symbols, it eliminates the repetitive insert‑character workflow typical of standard keyboards, streamlining note‑taking and transcription tasks. Documentation is supplied, and the source code is released under the MIT License, enabling users to compile the project themselves if desired.
Although development has ceased, the last stable release (2.3) remains functional on recent macOS versions, and earlier versions are available for older systems. The project’s open‑source nature allows community maintenance and customization beyond the discontinued official updates.
