KLayout

KLayout provides fast, accurate viewing of large IC layout files, supporting formats such as GDS2, OASIS, DXF, CIF, Gerber, and LEF/DEF. The viewer offers layer overlays, rulers, image overlays, customizable styles, hierarchical context views, bookmarks, and a search function for navigating instances or shapes. It also includes selective cell blanking and other tools for detailed inspection of mask data.

In editor mode, KLayout supplies a full set of drawing and manipulation features: creating layers and cells, instantiating cells, drawing polygons, boxes, wires, and labels, and applying geometric transformations like move, rotate, scale, and mirror. Boolean operations can be performed on polygons, and parametrized cells (PCells) enable complex geometry creation with few clicks. All actions are supported by unlimited undo/redo.

The application integrates a scripting environment for layout generation, design‑rule checking, and layout‑vs‑schematic comparison. Users can develop and debug scripts, run XOR/diff tools, trace nets, and perform code analysis through a rich API, making KLayout suitable for engineers who need both interactive editing and automated analysis of IC mask layouts.
