Movim
Modern, federated social network based on XMPP, with a fully featured group-chat, subscriptions and microblogging.
Movim provides a web‑based interface to the XMPP protocol, combining federated micro‑blogging, group chat, and real‑time publishing in a single responsive application. Users can create and follow blogs, join chatrooms, share stories, and initiate video calls, all while remaining on a decentralized network that interoperates with standard XMPP clients such as Conversations and Dino. The platform supports multiple XMPP servers simultaneously or can be limited to a single server for private communities.
The software is self‑hostable and distributed under the AGPL‑3.0 license, allowing anyone to run their own instance without subscription fees. Installation is documented in an INSTALL guide and can be tested locally via a Podman container, while production deployments follow the same instructions. Security considerations are addressed in a dedicated security document.
Targeted at individuals and groups who want a unified, open‑source social experience without relying on centralized services, Movim delivers blogging, messaging, and video‑conferencing features through a progressive web app that works across phones, tablets, and computers. It is compatible with popular XMPP servers such as ejabberd and Prosody.
