Noto
Simple plain text editor
Noto is a macOS‑only plain‑text editor that runs on Sierra (10.12) and newer. It offers general‑purpose editing with features such as extensive encoding support via the Cocoa API, allowing files containing a wide variety of scripts and symbols to be opened and saved correctly. The editor highlights invisible characters, and provides a smart multi‑selection indentation command that can insert tabs or a configurable number of spaces across multiple regions with a single keystroke.
Integration with iCloud Drive and Time Machine versioning keeps files synchronized and recoverable, while a theme system lets users apply or create visual styles for the editor. The application is distributed as a signed DMG and is also available through the Mac App Store, though redistribution is only possible from the signed container.
Noto is released under GPLv3, written primarily in Swift with some Objective‑C components, and its source code is hosted on GitHub, inviting users to clone, modify, and contribute.
