SoundAnchor
Audio device utility
SoundAnchor lets macOS users define a priority list for their audio devices so that the chosen microphone automatically becomes the default whenever it is connected. By setting a preferred mic order once, the app eliminates the need to manually switch inputs each time a call or recording session starts.
The utility also addresses audio‑quality degradation caused by Bluetooth headsets. When a Bluetooth device is used for both playback and microphone input, macOS switches to the low‑quality SCO codec; SoundAnchor prevents this fallback, preserving the higher‑quality AAC audio for listening while keeping the microphone separate. Users can adjust microphone gain and reorder devices directly from the menu bar, and drag‑and‑drop actions enable quick reconfiguration.
Additional features include shared listening, which synchronizes audio across two separate headphones for simultaneous music or video playback, and a simple toolbar interface for instant access to device controls. The app is available for Intel and Apple‑Silicon Macs through the Mac App Store and is marked as stable.
