tama96
A Tamagotchi for your desktop, terminal, and AI agents
tama96 provides a virtual pet that can live on a desktop, in a terminal, or be accessed by AI agents. The desktop version shows a pixel‑style LCD display with clickable icons, runs in the system tray, and can stay always on top while delivering background ticks and desktop notifications. The terminal variant renders braille‑pixel sprites directly in the console and can operate independently or as a client to the desktop app, using a single binary with no external dependencies.
The software includes a bundled MCP server that lets external AI tools interact with the pet, offering per‑action permissions and rate limits to control usage. This enables AI agents to feed, play with, and care for the pet programmatically. The pet follows a real‑time lifecycle where one day equals one pet year; hunger, happiness, waste, and illness change over time, influencing its evolution.
Evolution is driven by user actions, progressing through stages from egg to baby, child, teen, and adult. Depending on care quality, the pet can become one of eleven characters, such as Mametchi for optimal care or Tarakotchi for neglect, with a full evolution chart documented in the project’s README.
