Task Bert

Fully local open-source agent for managing your texts

Visit

The application indexes iMessage conversations on a Mac, storing them locally in an embedded database that supports full‑text and vector search. Users provide their own API key for a large‑language‑model service (Claude or OpenAI); the app then sends selected message excerpts directly to that provider to generate summaries, extract to‑dos, and create calendar events. All processing is read‑only; the software cannot send, delete, or modify messages.

Designed for privacy, the program runs entirely on the user’s machine and never uploads or stores message data on external servers. Only the AI provider receives the content needed for summarization, and the user controls which API key is used. An optional MCP server can expose the indexed data to compatible tools, but this requires explicit user permission.

The project is released under GPL v3, with source code publicly available for inspection, issue reporting, and contribution. It targets users who want a local, AI‑assisted way to keep track of important information hidden in their text messages without relying on cloud‑based services.
