Trimmy

Paste-once, run-once clipboard cleaner for terminal snippets

Trimmy runs as a macOS menu‑bar utility that watches the clipboard and automatically flattens multi‑line shell snippets when they are copied. It removes line breaks, respects backslash continuations, and strips leading prompts such as “# ” or “$ ” while leaving Markdown headings untouched. The app detects terminal programs (Terminal, iTerm, Ghostty, Warp, WezTerm, Alacritty, Hyper, kitty) and applies a configurable aggressiveness level—None, Low, Normal, or High—separately for regular applications and terminals, with options to keep blank lines or strip box‑drawing characters.

Users can invoke “Paste Trimmed” or “Paste Original” via menu items or hotkeys, allowing on‑the‑fly trimming without permanently altering the clipboard. An optional “Paste Reformatted Markdown” action reflows wrapped Markdown while preserving code blocks and blank lines. Trimmy also offers a command‑line interface for headless trimming, supports auto‑launch at login, and updates itself through Sparkle.

The tool is targeted at developers who frequently copy multi‑line commands from documentation, tutorials, or chat and want a single‑paste, ready‑to‑run version. Its distinctive features are the context‑aware aggressiveness settings, prompt cleanup that distinguishes shell commands from Markdown, and the ability to trim without affecting the original clipboard content.
