Umbrel

A beautiful personal server OS for self-hosting. Install on a Raspberry Pi 4 or Ubuntu/Debian.

umbrelOS is a home‑server operating system that lets users install a self‑hosted environment on a Raspberry Pi 4, Raspberry Pi 5, or any x86 machine running Ubuntu/Debian. It provides a graphical interface and an app store for deploying services such as Nextcloud, Jellyfin, a Bitcoin node, and a range of other applications with a single click. The system includes built‑in features for file storage, external NAS integration, backups, and support for AI models and automation tools.

The platform targets hobbyists, privacy‑concerned individuals, and small teams who want to keep their data and services under personal control rather than relying on commercial cloud providers. It offers a free tier with core functionality, while dedicated hardware bundles (Umbrel Pro and Umbrel Home) deliver additional hardware‑optimized support.

All software is released under the PolyForm Non‑commercial 1.0.0 license, allowing personal and nonprofit use, modification, and redistribution. Commercial use requires separate permission. The project is maintained as a stable, proprietary product with an active community and documentation for building custom apps.
