Archipelago
Terminal emulator built on web technology
Archipelago is an open‑source terminal emulator that runs on macOS and is built using web technologies. It replaces the rendering layer used by Hyper with Xterm.js, aiming to provide smoother performance and more reliable handling of large command output without visual glitches. The application is distributed as a native macOS app, available via Homebrew Cask or direct download, and can be compiled from source with Yarn and Xcode.
The project targets developers who prefer a minimal, extensible terminal experience and who value the ability to customize the interface through web‑based extensions. Its design focuses on stability and speed, addressing issues such as buffer overlap and slow rendering that were observed in earlier Hyper versions.
Archipelago is released under the MIT License, and contributions are welcomed through its GitHub repository, where bug reports and pull requests can be submitted. The source includes instructions for building, packaging, and releasing new versions.
