ColorWell

ColorWell is a macOS‑only utility for creating, editing, and managing color palettes. It lets users import and export palettes in JSON, Adobe .ase, and Apple .clr formats, and integrates those palettes directly into the system color picker for use across the operating system. The app maintains a full history of every color change, preserving the active color and any saved swatches so users can revisit past selections.

The palette generator offers advanced controls, including complementary, analogous, triadic, tetradic, and monochromatic variations, as well as the ability to extract colors from images. Users can fine‑tune individual colors, create palettes with an unlimited number of swatches, and configure the interface to display only the color formats they need. Conversion between Hex, RGB, CMYK, HSB, HSL, Lab, and named colors is supported.

Additional features include a menubar mode, global hotkey for quick access, drag‑and‑drop rearrangement of swatches, dark‑mode support, and localization in several languages. The app is built with Swift/Objective‑C and targets macOS 14 or newer on both Apple Silicon and Intel hardware.
