Ente

An end-to-end encrypted photo-sharing platform (alternative to Google Photos, Apple Photos).

Ente provides a fully open‑source, end‑to‑end encrypted platform for storing and sharing photos, documents, and two‑factor authentication data. The suite includes Ente Photos, which offers encrypted cloud storage with features such as face detection, semantic search, private sharing, collaborative albums, and background uploads, as well as Ente Locker for secure document storage and Ente Auth as a 2FA authenticator. All components run on client applications for iOS, Android, F‑Droid, Web, Linux, macOS, and Windows, and a server that can be self‑hosted.

The system is designed for users who want private, secure media storage without trusting a third‑party provider. It supplies 10 GB of free storage for the hosted service, while the entire codebase is available under the AGPL‑3.0 license for self‑hosting. Audits by external security firms have been performed on the source and cryptography.

Ente’s distinctive aspects are its end‑to‑end encryption across platforms, the ability to self‑host the service, and the inclusion of multiple related tools (photo library, secure locker, and authenticator) within a single, openly developed repository.
