LosslessSwitcher
Lossless sample rate switcher for Apple Music
LosslessSwitcher runs in the macOS menu bar and automatically changes the sample rate of the currently selected audio output device to match the lossless track playing in Apple Music. It reads Apple Music’s logs to determine each song’s sample rate and issues a system‑level command to set the device accordingly, updating the displayed rate in the menu bar. The interface is limited to a single icon that can show the detected sample rate.
The tool is aimed at macOS users who listen to Apple Music’s Lossless and Hi‑Res Lossless streams and want their hardware to operate at the optimal sample rate without manually opening Audio MIDI Setup. It supports macOS 11.4 through Sonoma 14.x in the stable 1.x line, with a beta 2.0 branch for Sequoia 15.4 and later.
Implementation relies on the OSLog API, requires the user to have admin privileges, and cannot be sandboxed. Bit‑depth switching is available but not recommended due to reduced detection accuracy, and occasional brief audio interruptions may occur when the sample rate is changed.
